Description
Clifford Coffin, photograph, Clifford Coffin (American, 1913-1972), portrait of Henri Matisse, 1949, silver gelatin print, titled verso, 7.75"h x 7.5"w (sight), 13"h x 12"w (framed)
Provenance: From the Collection of Rosamond Bernier
Notes/Literature: Known as one of the greatest of Vogue Magazines "lost" photographers from its 1930s/40s heyday, almost all original Coffin prints were thought to have been destroyed in his studio fire in the 1960s. What remains of his catalog belongs to the Vogue archives, which rediscovered and published his work in the mid-1980s, creating a sensation in the photography world. We are happy to have a group of original silver gelatin prints.
