Description
The dish is carved with a floral spray to the interior, surrounded by a geometric band. It is covered allover with an olive green glaze except for the unglazed ring to the base which has fired red.
Catalogue notes: Japanese celadon wares were made in kilns close to Arita in the 17th century in imitation of Chinese Longquan celadons and were intended for a Southeast Asian market. Two of such dishes can be found in the collection of the National Museums Scotland, nos. V.2015.10.68 and V.2015.10.69. A very similar dish was sold at Christie's South Kensington, 9 November 2008, lot 96.
Condition: with kiln grit; the glaze colour slightly misfired to one side.
