Remarkable “April 14, 1865” Dated Civil War Paroled Prisoner Pass Issued on the Same Day President Abraham Lincoln was Assassinated at Ford’s Theater by Booth !
April 14, 1865-Dated on the Day of President Abraham Lincoln’s Assassination, Partly-Printed Document, Civil War “Paroled Prisoner” Pass, Very Fine.
April 14, 1865-Dated, Partly-Printed Document Signed, “W.C. Randolph”, 1 page, measures 7.5” x 3.75”, Lynchburg, Virginia. This Parole Prisoner Pass being Signed and Issued on the Same Day that President Abraham Lincoln was Assassinated by John Wilkes Booth! This historically dated special form reads, in full:
“THE BEARER, Sergt. H. Hutter of Co. B, 62nd Regt. of Virginia, a Paroled Prisoner of the Army of the Confederate States, has permission to go to his home, and there remain undisturbed. - (Signed) W.C. Randolph, Surg: in Charge Gen. Hos. No 2”.
Normal folds, with some paper reinforcement on the blank reverse with staining from four prior mounting traces having some show through to the face side, printed in black on off-white period paper and quite legible. This historic Document doubtless saw much physical wear, varied weather conditions, and had actual use. One of these Documents sold some months ago from a prominent dealer in Chicago, in somewhat nicer condition, which sold for $6,500 and other examples have sold for still higher amounts in the past. An extremely desirable tangible Document, being a testament to the end of the great American Civil War conflict. Exceptional and Rare. This extraordinary example Issued on the Same Day President Abraham Lincoln was Assassinated at Ford’s Theater by John Wilkes Booth!
