c. 1948 Photograph Signed & Inscribed, “Kindest regards to Bill Vaughan from Harry Truman” in rich dark brown ink inscribed along the mats bottom margin of this vintage matte-finish Presidential Portrait by “Miller of Washington,” Washington, D.C., “Mammoth” Size measuring a huge 13” x 9.75”, Choice Extremely Fine. Nicely matted to 18.25” x 13.25” this Photograph shows President Truman in Chest-up Portrait pose while he is seated in a chair, having a sincere stoic expression on his face. Harry Hawkins Vaughan (November 26, 1893 – May 20, 1981) was a Military Aide and personal friend to the President (1945-1953) during the presidency of Harry S. Truman. Excellent quality, quite rare and it appears superb for display.
Harry Hawkins Vaughan was born on November 26, 1893 in Glasgow, Missouri. He attended the Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. With the United States entry into World War I, Vaughan was commissioned Second lieutenant of Field Artillery and has been assigned for military training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

During the training, Vaughan befriended with another officer, future U.S. President Harry S. Truman. They were both assigned to the 129th Field Artillery Regiment within 35th Infantry Division and sent to the France. Vaughan participated in the Battle of Saint-Mihiel or Meuse-Argonne Offensive. Vaughan served as a liaison officer and battery commander and for his service in combat, he was later decorated with two Silver Stars and French Croix de guerre.
