MELVIN H. PURVIS, JR. (1903-1960). Famous FBI Agent Who Killed John Dillinger.
December 14, 1942-Dated, Partially-Printed Document, Check Signed, “Melvin H. Purvis,” 1 page, 8.5” x 3”, PSA/DNA graded Near Mint-Mint 8. Being a personal check both Engrossed and Signed by Purvis, made out to “Lookout Mountain - Fairyland Club” in the amount of $3.75. Drawn on the First National Bank and Trust Co., Kalamazoo, Michigan. Tiny punch cancelled “PAID +12 28 32 74•42” well away from signature which is very dark and crisp. Various endorsement stamps on verso. A wonderful example with a great looking signature.
Melvin Horace Purvis II. (October 24, 1903 – February 29, 1960) was an American law enforcement official and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent. He was given the nickname "Little Mel" because of his short stature.[1] He is noted for leading the manhunts that tracked such outlaws as Baby Face Nelson, Pretty Boy Floyd, and John Dillinger.
