GEORGES BRAQUE Argenteuil-sur-Seine, 1882 - 1963 Paris The Green Nest - ca. 1950 Hand Signed and Hand Numbered Color Etching and Aquatint Title: The Green Nest. Technique: Color Etching and Aquatint on BFK Rives paper An outstanding original George Braque Etching, "LE NID VERT", pencil signed G Braque (lower right) and edition numbered 160/300, , and would make an impressive gift or addition to any fine household or collection. Additional Information: This work is hand signed in pencil by the artist at the lower right margin "G.Braque"It is also Hand Numbered in pencil at the lower left margin "160/300".This Etching was printed by Crommelynck, "ATELIER GROMMELYNCK PARIS" STAMP (Lower left corner) , Paris, based on a painting by Braque, and published by Maeght, Paris in ca. 1950. The work was printed in a limited edition of 300 hand signed and numbered impressions. Braque was very involved in the printing process, overseeing the engraver and correcting the proofs when necessary. This would would make an impressive addition to any fine household or collection. PLATE SIZE: 12 1/4" X 8 3/4" /30.5cm. x 22cm. (Visible Artwork) PAPER SIZE: 19" X 15" / 47.5cm. x 37.5cm. CONDITION: Slight yellowing around the boarder of the work due to age, otherwise excellent. Literature: "Braque: The Complete Graphics Catalogue Raisonne", by Dora Vallier, published by Alpine Fine Arts collection, NY, 1982.Reference: Maeght 1028, page 294, illustrated. NOTE: A similar etching number 63/300 was Sold for 3,150 with an auction estimate of 2,000 - 4,000 at Christie's. BACKGROUND: George Braque (French, 1882–1963); His earliest works were impressionistic, but after seeing the work exhibited by the artistic group known as the "Fauves" (Beasts) in 1905, Braque adopted a Fauvist style. The Fauves, a group that included Henri Matisse and Andre Derain among others, used brilliant colors to represent emotional response. Braque worked most closely with the artists Raoul Dufy and Othon Friesz, who shared Braque's hometown of Le Havre, to develop a somewhat more subdued Fauvist style. Measurements: .
