Carleton Wiggins (American, 1848-1932) Oil on board painting, signed lower left, Carleton Wiggins, titled "Off Saybrook" & dated on reverse, Duchess Co., NY, 1912. Impressionist sheep grazing pastoral scene and would make an amazing addition to any fine American art collection. - SIZE: 11 3/4" x 15 1/2" (artwork) / 15 3/4" x 19 3/4" (frame). - CONDITION: Some splits in board, minor paint loss, original condition. BACKGROUND: Carleton Wiggins NA (1848–1932) was an American landscape and cattle painter. He was born in Orange County, New York, and studied in New York at the National Academy of Design and with George Inness, and in Paris, and settled in New York. His landscape were executed in broad flowing lines, with a rich low-toned color scheme, and often contain cattle, solidly and realistically portrayed. His son Guy Wiggins is also a noted American noted for his New York City winter snowscapes.
