Description
Lengthy letter written and signed by Rabbi Chaim Yaakov Naftali Silberberg.
The letter was sent to Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld. Rabbi Silberberg opens the letter with many honorifics for Rabbi Sonnenfeld. He then relates that he was hospitalized and spent most of the day cooking for himself, because he didn't eat any of the hospital food, and says that now he must rest most of the day. He then moves to family affairs, "regarding my righteous sister..." and asks to for financial assistance on her behalf. Includes some notes regarding Torah studies and more.
Rabbi Chaim Yaakov Naftali Silberberg [1850-1930] was a prominent Moreh Tzedek in Warsaw. He was a disciple of Rabbi Yisrael Salanter and the "Beit HaLevi." He was a confidante of the Netziv of Volozhin and the Chofetz Chaim. Rabbi Elchanan Wasserman took care to call him "HaGaon HaTzaddik." He actively encouraged observance of the laws of Shabbat and family purity, and printed placards appealing for stringent care in these matters. He published the writings of his father, Rabbi Avraham Binyamin av"d Warisow and those of his grandfather, the Gaon of Kutna, author of Zayit Ra'anan.
