Follower of James Pradier (French 1790 ~ 1852), a pair of Continental sculpted white marble herm figures representing Bacchus and a Bacchante in Neoclassical taste, late 19th century, modelled as opposing, the former with head turned to dexter, the latter facing slightly to sinister, both portrayed with vines in their hair and draped in animal skins, above the tapering integral pedestals carved with grapevine and floral swags in relief respectively, the stepped bases with ogee mouldings, 205cm high overall, the plinths 30cm square A similar pair is held in the collection of the Indianapolis Museum of Art, having been gifted by the family of the Late JK Lilly, the eminent pharmaceutical industrialist and philanthropist
