Item Details
Description
This brass circa 1880 Western Plains style pipe tomahawk has a very unique history with it. It was owned by Major Lennox R. Lohr, the producer and manager of the 1933 Chicago World's Fair. The blade was engraved and the tomahawk was presented to him by the managing director of the Indian Villages at a fair ceremony in August of 1933. Lohr later became the first president of N.B.C. television. It was purchased by a collector directly from a Lohr family member in Illinois and was featured in the 2009 book "The Mark Francis Collection of American Indian Art". It features a brass head measuring 7 1/4 inches in length and an artfully carved haft that measures 17 1/2 inches long. Original clean out plug still intact.Dimensions: 17-1/2"L.
