Slotin Auction is humbled and honored to be able to bring you the lifelong estate of Kevin Reid, owner of the prestigious Australian Aboriginal Art Gallery in Savannah. Kevin opened his gallery in May 2016 and was tragically shot and killed a few months later. His last act of heroism was shielding his bride, Kari, whom he married in 2015, from the gunmen.
Kevin was born in the Australian capital of Canberra and had travelled extensively throughout his country. He spent more than 25 years in the Deserts of Australia working among Aboriginal peoples where he witnessed their beliefs, practices and reverence for the land.
As he came to know them he grew a passion and deep respect for their culture and art. Kevin brought his love of their unique and inspiring creations to share with his new home of Savannah. His Gallery featured works from some of the most renowned contemporary Aboriginal artists. In addition to appreciating the artwork, Kevin was a avid scholar and historian of the aboriginal people. He created extensive biographies about most of the artist which we encourage you to view on the online catalog accompanying each work.
