Description
Medal coined by the Craftsmen Society of Gala?i (Romania). [Romania, 1896].
Obverse: synagogue of the Gala?i Craftsmen Society, beneath it the year the cornerstone was laid (1892) and the year of its inauguration (1896). Surrounding it is a legend in Romanian. On the right is the signature "H. Sternberg Jasi". Reverse: emblem of the Craftsmen Society (combining a compass, work tools, a handshake and a ribbon with the year 1874); surmounted by the Hebrew verse "You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be happy, and it shall be well with you" (Psalm 128). Surrounding it is the Romanian legend "Societatea De Bine-Facere Meseriasilor Israeliti" [Charity Society of the Jewish Craftsmen].
