Description
Medal commemorating the convention of the "Sanhedrin" by Napoleon. [France, 1806]. Design: Depaulis (obverse) and Dupres (reverse).
Obverse: portrait of Napoleon and the legend "Napoleon Emp. Et Roi" [Napoleon - emperor and king]. Reverse: Napoleon holding the Tablets of the Law, delivered to him by Moses (kneeling before him, with horns on his head). At the bottom is the legend "Grand Sanhedrin XXX Mai MDCCCVI" (on 30 May 1806 Napoleon convened an assembly of the dignitaries of the Jewish community).
Signed on both sides.
Diameter: 40 mm. Slight deformity.
Provenance: collection of Bruno Kirschner.
