Description
Spice container. Poland, 1789.
Silver (marked), cast, pierced, cut and engraved; partly gilt.
Designed as a double-storied tower, with a pointed turret surmounted by a lion holding a branch. The four sides are decorated with pierced vegetal designs. Set on a foot with an octagonal base.
The container itself is comprised of three parts, and opens with a central screw attached to the foot and base. The turret is removable, (it is attached by four legs that fit into holes in the tower).
Height: 22.5 cm. Maximum length of the base: 9.5 cm. Good condition. Slight bends and breaks. There may be a bell missing in the center of the turret. Slight corrosion and staining. Soldering repairs to the decoration atop the turret.
