Item Details
Description
Ketubah recording the marriage of the groom Avraham David son of the deceased "revered elder" Benjamin Refael, with the bride Simcha daughter of "the beloved and revered" Yitzchak Mondolfi. Ancona, Sivan 1741.
Handwritten on parchment, (with cut margins), decorated with multicolored vegetal decorations, including flowers and fruit. Some of the decorations, as well as the verses of blessing that appear in a square border alongside the text of the ketubah, were done in gold, but the gold color has almost entirely faded.
The ketubah is signed by the witnesses Daniel ben Moshe Nahamo and Matzliach ben Moshe Cohen. Under their signatures, in a separate paragraph, appears the text of the Tena'im, in Italian Hebrew cursive script.
70.5X51.5 cm. Fair-good condition. Creases. Open tears to the margins, with sections missing from the decorations and the verses of blessing. Stains and wear. Adhesive tape and glue stains on the reverse.
