Description
Sword of the American Patriot, Sons of Liberty leader, member of the Continental Congress and Ambassador to Russia. Francis Dana (1743-1811) signer of the Articles of Confederation and who voted to adopt the name and flag of the United States. In 1778 he was tasked by Congress to meet Washington at Valley Forge to assist Washington reorganize the colonial army. The sword by John Bailey New York 1777: Lion head silver-hilted officer's sword. Pierced and engraved silver guard suspended from which a double silver chain-guard connecting to a stud held by the lion's bite; black leather scabbard with reinforcing line-decorations, three mounts, the upper-most engraved Francis Dana 1777 on the obverse side.
