Description
Peru, 1540 AD - 1575 AD A rare Latin American Inca-Colonial blackware vessel dating to the very early Colonial period. It depicts a sitting Conquistador dressed in Colonial attire typical of the period. By his side are two Inca captives - prisoners or slaves. He appears to be holding a spear in one hand. Nicely burnished surface. Condition is excellent . A fine example! 7 3/4" H x 4" W x 3 3/4" D.Provenance: East Tennessee collection, by descent from Edwin V. Hill, M.D., deceased 1969. Dr. Hill was a faculty member of Tufts and Harvard Medical Schools and served as a Colonel in the U.S. Army.
