Advertisements correctly dated "5R-10.83" for the first printing. Original light yellow-green cloth, spine lettered in gilt. Housed in a custom case. Original black coated endpapers with Maggs description tipped in, and remnants of other descriptions no longer attached. Boards and board edges rubbed, ink mark on front board, small stain on rear board, lower corners bumped. Text block a bit shaken, edges lightly toned and faintly foxed, front hinge cracked, rear hinge starting, occasional dust soiling on outer margins of leaves, morocco bookplate of "Josiah Kirby Lilly" (founder of the Lilly Library at Indiana University) adhered to front free endpaper, unrelated contemporary ink ownership signature dated "December 10, 1883" on front free endpaper verso. A very good, bright copy of the most famous pirate story ever written, the adventures of young Jim Hawkins and his race for treasure against pirate Long John Silver.
