Description
[Mickey Spillane]. Mickey Spillane WWII Original Photographs and Army Air Force Uniforms. A unique look at Spillane's WWII military flying career through approximately 100 original period photographs which feature Mickey with comrades, women (and more women), and several great aircraft images. Of particular interest are several photographs of Spillane with a woman who is alleged to be the inspiration for the character of Velda, Mike Hammer's secretary. Additionally, there are several interesting images of training aircraft in the archive and many, many shots of Spillane and his fellow pilots.
The lot also includes Spillane's Greenwood Army Air Field year book for 1943. His photograph appears with the other instructors attached to Flight 8 of the training school.
Finally, two tan wool summer weight officer service dress tunics, each named to Spillane, trousers, and two tan cotton shirts complete the group. Both tunics have instructor insignia on the lower right sleeve, one tunic has a Flight Instructor U.S.A.F.I. sleeve insignia. Both tunics have scattered moth holes but are generally in very good condition. The shirts are well-worn with scattered areas of soiling and fraying at the cuffs and collar. From the estate of Mickey Spillane.
