Description
George III Mahogany Dining Table, 19th century, consisting of two drop-leaf D-ends and a central drop-leaf section, all with finely figured veneers, above a conforming frieze with a lower inlaid diamond banding, raised on tapering square legs with geometric band inlay, h. 29", w. 48", extended l. 155".
Condition
In very, very good restored and polished condition. There is evidence of a few professional veneer repairs to the apron. The finish exhibits shrinkage, a few light surface scratches and scuffs consistent with use. The extended table, with brass clips, is sturdy and stable. The top boards do not exhibit any shrinkage cracks. One leaf is very slightly lighter in tone and duller in finish than the others. That board, together with the top on one of the ends, does not exhibit as tight of grain as the others. There is some glue residue on one leaf (presumably from a sticker). The center section may be a later replacement utilizing old wood. There is a loss to the stringing on top of one leg, about 3/8" by 3/8". No other losses or repairs to stringing noted.
