George III Sterling Silver and Glass Decanter Frame, hallmarked London, 1791-1792, by Robert Hennell I (1741-1811; free 1763), the saltire-form wooden-backed frame with canted corners and four flat-column legs supporting conforming receptacles with stopper holders and centering a reeded ring handle, with four colorless conforming paneled decanters with diamond-cut banding and floriform stoppers, overall h. 9-1/2", w. 7-7/8", 20.57 t. oz. (excluding decanters but including wooden backing).

In generally good condition, with moderate surface wear commensurate with age, but no breaks or repairs to the silver. The wooden backing has two shrinkage splits along the grain lines, but the entire backing is securely held by crimped edges. Hallmarked (on the upper face of the base) with: 1) the sterling lion passant; 2) the London crowned leopard's head; 3) the date letter "q" for 1791-1792; 4) the George III bust duty mark; and 5) the "R.H" maker's mark of Robert Hennell. The marks are worn but fully legible; the lower edge and ring handle part-marked. The decanters have several scattered chips and frits, the largest being a 1" x 1/4" chip on the lower canted edge of one; a 3/8" chip on the rim of another; and three 3/8" chips between the other two. No cracks or repairs noted. The stoppers show some variations and some, if not all, are replacements; most have some chipping on the lower edges, the largest about 3/8" x 1/4".
