Description
Bronze Yamantaka and his consort from the 18th - 19th century. This bronze relief depicts Yamantaka and his consort in a tantric dance. Yamantaka has many hands and feet. Behind him is a mandorla of fire. His head is that of a buffalo with other faces atop and next to his central one. Yamantaka and his consort stand atop a mass of creatures and people, underneath which is a lotus base.
Dimensions are 4 3/4 inches wide by 5 5/8 inches high. All measurements are approximate.
Provenance: From a Chicago estate, family was in China in the early 1900's.
