Description
Late 17th century caudle cup with body of vessel depicting Asian figures flying kites and walking with umbrellas amongst flowers and birds - with a city stamp of London, unidentified maker's mark of overlapping "SL", and date letter of 1689. Lid with etched floral design believed to be a later marriage - maker's mark of IO?, unidentied stamp, and a date letter of T in a shield. Total approx. weight of both items is 23.19 troy oz. From a Basking Ridge, NJ estate. Dimensions: 8.5" w x 5.375" diameter x 7.25" h.
Condition
Inscription to underside reading, "Mae C. Plant, 1917". Mae C. Plant was the wife of Morton F. Plant. Plant once owned what is now The Cartier building on 52nd Street, Manhattan. Vessel and lid appear to be a later marriage; solder marks and possible breaks to underside of vessel; repair to area where handle meets body of vessel; split to top rim.
