Description
MICRO MOSAIC PENDANT? CROSS ITALIAN EARLY 1900'S : The cross is made of a solid piece of brass or a brass like metal. Cross is embedded with glass micro mosaic decoration and the ends of the cross are clover shaped. Each features a scene of the four different religious Papal Basilicas St. Peter, St. John Lateran, Santa Maria Maggiore and St. Paul in the Vatican and Rome. In the middle of the Crucifix is IHS surrounded by flowers and set in a red background. This is a fine example of micro mosaic craftsmanship constructed with fine glass tesserae mosaic pieces. Such a piece would have taken many weeks to make. The micro mosaic work appears to be in good condition. On the reverse of the cross there are some very small markings, consistent with wear and handling.
