being a 17.5mm cast gold tone metal disc, fashioned to resemble the moon and boasting an enameled American flag; the back reading, "FLOWN TO THE MOON BY AN INTREPID CREW/ APOLLO XII/ NOVEMBER 1969/ CONRAD. GORDON. BEAN." The pin is affixed to an un-dated typed letter on the Grumman Aerospace Corporation letterhead that is addressed to Lunar Module engineer James Harrington and signed by Grumman President L. J. Evans and Sr. Vice President J. G. Gavin, Jr. The letter reads, in full: "FLOWN TO THE MOON BY THE INTREPID CREW/ the Apollo Commemorative Pin which accompanies this letter was flown to the moon in Apollo Lunar Module 6 "INTREPID" by Astronauts Conrad and Bean./ It is presented to you for your dedication in meeting the challenge to the Grumman/NASA team that our nation would, before the end of this decade, land a man on the moon and return him safely to earth. We hope you will wear it with pride in the knowledge that you have served your nation well." The letter is laminated to a wooden wall plaque that is also drilled to accommodate the tie pin.

Included with this lot is a photoprint transcript of a partial in-flight communication from Alan Bean in which he gratefully identifies Jim Harrington as a top contributor to the Apollo 12 Mission's success.
