Description
mixed media on canvas, signed and illegibly dated at lower right, presented in a contemporary brass frame.
DOA 50.25 x 48.25 in.
This painting directly relates to Congo Clones in the collection of the Asheville Museum of Art. Rather than Ingres' portrait of Madame Moitessier, Tucker Cooke uses Bronzino's 16th century portrait of a young literati to center this composition and surrounds him with grotesque masks, amaryllis blooms, and faceted rubies.
From the Estate of the late H. Lee Fowlkes, Jr., Yanceyville, NC
