West Africa, Nigeria, Yoruba, Ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A beautiful, carved Yoruba Ose Sango (Shango Staff) with a janus finial depicting a male and a female head, both with intricately carved coiffures embellished with vivid blue organic pigment, both visages with finely delineated facial features and scarifications, on a tapering shaft that still shows some red pigment. A special ceremonial implement on a square, black wood mount. Size: 5.25" at widest point x 19" H (13.3 cm x 48.3 cm); 20" H (50.8 cm) on mount
