Description
Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st century CE. A gorgeous silver head of a woman, finely detailed, with a focus on her elaborate coiffure. She wears twin headbands and has the back pulled up into a ponytail. Roman womens' hairstyles have been extensively studied based on sculptural remains; like women's hairstyles today, they were highly individualized, gendered markers of status, age, and beauty. Researchers believe that they were combinations of natural hair and wigs made from their wearers' own hair. This woman's head is tilted to one side, with a thin, young face. This may be a copy of a larger statue, made to be kept in an individual home, and is likely a portrait of a real woman. Comes with custom stand. Size: 2.2" L x 1.2" W x 2.2" H (5.6 cm x 3 cm x 5.6 cm)
