Description
Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. A finely formed bronze lidded jar, probably a makeup pot, perhaps for holding kohl. Fanciful decorations cover the exterior, including grape cluster designs where the handles attach to the shoulder. Made of bronze in an era when cheap glass blowing techniques existed, this probably belonged to a wealthy person as part of their personal toilette. Size: 2" L x 2.5" W x 2.1" H (5.1 cm x 6.4 cm x 5.3 cm)
