Description
Greece, Cyprus, Archaic Period, ca. 7th century BCE. A round bowl for milk with a projecting handle rising from the upper body in the form of a ram's head with curved horns. Thin black lines painted on the creamy background give geometric designs on the exterior, as well as the details of the ram's horns. At this time, Cyprus was become part of a pan-Mediterranean culture that included Archaic-period Greek and Phoenician influence, and bowls like these were part of a larger trade network and artistic and commercial conversation. Size: 7.85" W x 5.1" H (19.9 cm x 13 cm)
