Description
Antonio Pineda 970 Silver and Amethyst Peapod Brooch Pin. Antonio Pineda (1919-2009), was an internationally renowned Mexican modernist silversmith praised for his bold, striking designs. He studied painting and sculpture as a child, and apprenticed at William Spratling's Taller de Las Delicias before founding his own workshop in 1941. He is the subject of Silver Seduction: The Art of Mexican Modernist Antonio Pineda produced in conjunction with a 2008 exhibition of his work at UCLA's Fowler Museum. This charming brooch by Pineda is a peapod crafted in 970 silver (higher purity than the Sterling standard), with three amethyst cabochon peas. This beautifully made peapod, complete with vein and stem, has an open back to reflect light on the amethyst stones, in excellent condition with natural occlusions. The pin measures 3 1/2" x 3/4", 29 grams, marked silver 970, Sterling Mexico, Antonio Taxco crown, PR571, eagle 17. Excellent condition. A wonderful collectible piece
