The Letter a request by Townsend and his newphew for admission to the Naval Academy. Grant replies in the column: \"Let special attention be called to this application when appointments to the Naval Academy, for the class of \'76 come to be made.\"\r\nU.S. Grant Sept. 14th \'74\r\nUlysses S. Grant (April 27, 1822 – July 23, 1885) was the 18th President of the United States (1869–77) and commanding General of the United States Army (1864–69).
