Mae Barbee Bruening was an active exhibitor, teacher and painter in the San Antonio art community. Her art work is found in many Texas churches. She was named Artist of the Month in July, 1966 by St. Mary's University. She was a charter member of the River Art Group, an active participant in the San Antonio Art League, and member of the board of directors of the Wonderland Art Gallery, where she taught in their instructional program. Bruening studied under artists in Chicago, Laguna Beach, and Paris, France.
