With 60 (of 61) hand-colored maps (30 are double-page) plus insets and other small maps; 1 hand-colored double-page plate showing the Mountains and Rivers of the world; another double showing the Flags or "National Emblems" of the world; 1 hand-colored time table plate; 12 hand-colored map charts; several wood-engraved vignettes; plus a steel-engraved plate before the title page titled "American Atlas." (Folio) 18x14½, contents loosely laid inside the original ¼ morocco and blue-green cloth, lettered in gilt, front cover stamped with U.S. Seal vignette, marbled endpapers.

Also, a full-page map of Nebraska, Dakota, Colorado, Idaho & Kansas with Idaho encompassing most of present-day Montana and Wyoming. Lacking the final map (98/99 Ancient Greece and Rome). Binding rubbed, hinges cracked; lacking one map, long tear to double-hemisphere map, map of North America with tears in margins; some light foxing and staining within; maps overall very good or better.
