Description
Wonderful authentic antique map of Texas published in 1883 by George F. Cram. Printed in cerographic relief line engraving with county divisions in yellow and state boundaries outlined in deep rose. Inset map of Texas panhandle. Includes Greer County as part of Texas rather than Oklahoma Territory. All railroad names, routes and railway stations are depicted, with mileage between stations. Also shows western forts, water holes and the names of Mexican border cities. Ornamental border. Wide margins. Pea-size paper damage at top margin edge. Small bit of toning in left and right margins. Paper damage and toning will not show when matted.
George F. Cram (1842-1928) served in the U.S. Army during the American Civil War. After the war ended, Cram joined his uncle Rufus Blanchard's Evanston map business in 1867. Two years later, he became sole proprietor of the firm and renamed it the George F. Cram Co. which became a leading map firm and first American firm to publish a world atlas.
