Description
Manufactured 1870 to 1873 with 11,533 made. These were built using surplus 1861 Springfield parts. Barrel and framed are numbered 3110. Barrel is finished in the white and a folding ladder Civil War-type rear sight. Block is stamped "1869 U.S." with eagle. Lockplate is dated 1863 and stamped "U.S. Springfield" with eagle. Two barrel bands stamped "U" with a sling swivel on forward band. Steel cleaning rod. No visible cartouche. Barrel is a clean smooth brown patina. Lock is grey-brown patina, as is trigger guard. Very good wood. Fine action. Visible rifling with some black powder abrasions. Comes with a period correct bayonet. These rifles are very early Indian War trapdoors.
