This rifle was manufactured in 1875, third year of production. It is a scarce First Model that features the thumbprint dust cover that rides within rails and no caliber designation (proper for First Model). Other features include full round barrel and full magazine. Sharp barrel legends. This rifle has survived in fine all original condition. The barrel and tube are basically a grey patina with age spotting. Sideplates have silvered out with traces of blue. Sides of frame have approximately 75% of a mix of blue and brown patina, some still bright. Wood fits tight but is slightly shy to metal, so it was probably freshened up at one time. Loading gate still has 20% of the high polish blue finish. Action is perfect. Strong, rifled bore. An extremely clean, fine First Model .44.
