Description
This is a rare surviving belt badge from the Russian Imperial Army during the Napoleonic Wars. The eagle is made from solid brass with an iron hook. It was probably a regimental chest badge. The pierced and engraved double headed imperial eagle has a fish between the heads. This probably identified a certain family, region, or regiment. The chest is engraved with the feathers of the eagle as well as initials: M.W. and dated 1810. The eagle is grasping a cannon barrel, which means this was for a regiment of artillery. The piece is in wonderful condition with a deep patina. Measures 3 3/4 x 1 ¾ inches.
