Description
A) Cane made from wood taken at Valley Forge in 1878 with silver plate reading: “1778 Valley Forge Encampment 1878”. Measures 35 inches long. Good condition. B) 1878 bronze medal with bust of Washington on Front. Reads: “Valley Forge Centennial 1778 – 1878 In Commemoration of the Departure of the Continental Army June 19.” Has darkened patina, some pitting, and wear from age. Measures 1 5/8 inches in diameter. C) Brass example of previous medal but instead used as an advertising watch fob for the NJS Schloss & Co boys Clothing from New York. Measures 1.5 inches tall. There is a lot of wear from age & use. D) Holed aluminum medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Evacuation of Valley Forge June 19 1903. Measures 1 ¼ inches in diameter. Some wear from age & use. E) 1878 Broadside / souvenir memento and map of the first Valley Forge Centenary Celebration. June 19th 1878 showing roads, forts, entrenchments, headquarters, etc. as they now exist. In gold gilt print. Measures 11 ¼ x 8 ¾ inches. Some corner & edge ware but overall in great condition. F) 1878 pamphlet of the memorial service held at the 1878 Centennial Celebration at Valley Forge. There are folds, browning, foxing, and some staining. Some edge and corner wear. G) 1878 certificate for shares in the Centennial and Memorial Association. This was a stock certificate for those that donated funds for the celebration. Measures 11.5 x 8.5 inches. There is some browning and chipping around the edges with some minor losses. H) Framed 1878 engraving of Washington’s Headquarters at Valley Forge as it looked in 1878. By Walter Burridge. The print has browning. Entire piece measures 14 5/8 x 12 inches. Original period frame has some wear with scuffing and markings with some losses to decorative features. I) 1861 original photograph of Washington’s Headquarters at Valley Forge During the Memorable Winter of 1777-78 photographed by Lewis Horning of Phoenixville, PA March, 2, 1861. There is browning, staining, and losses to the cardboard backing. Photograph attached in center. Entire piece measures 11.5 x 10.5 inches.
