Description
Probably 1870's. This advertising token was made from a solid silver seated liberty coin. It has been made into a piece to be worn by a fruit seller. Engraved on the coin are an assortment of fruits: apples, pears, grapes, peaches, and currants. The piece is also hallmarked on the back: "J.H. Shourds". Jesse H. Shourds of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, was the jeweler that engraved the piece. He was born around 1837. He was found in the 1870 census. Measures 1-1/4 inches in diameter. Excellent condition with a few light marks and nice unpolished patina.
