This trade sign is a rare form to find. It would have hung outside of a locksmith shop. Found in Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia. The piece is constructed from plaster. The piece retains an old coat of white paint. It also has most of the original chain used for hanging. The sign fell off the mount at one point and was broken. There are areas of loss including a large section of the head of the key. It was fixed in typical make-do style using rolled burlap and rope. The shaft of the key has also suffered some loss and cracking, the entire piece has been secured using wrapped copper wire. It is currently stable and has great character and patina, scattered areas of cracks, paint loss, and marks from use. Measures 53 x 17.5 inches.
