Description
Pre-Columbian, Peru, ca. 1000 CE. A bichrome vessel in the form of a jaguar, with a strap handle terminating in a spout that projects from the lower back of the animal. The animal's body forms the body of the vessel and the head is opposite the spout with huge eyes and razor-sharp teeth shown in a fierce countenance. Painted on the sides of the animal's body are abstract human faces with large headdresses that are often associated with nobility in ancient Peru. Size: 7.5" L x 3.35" W x 6.5" H (19 cm x 8.5 cm x 16.5 cm)
