Of all of the great companies that built the American automobile, Auburn was certainly one of the best. Although long gone, it is affectionately remembered for its great cars and interesting history. Born from the roots of the Eckhart Carriage Company, Auburn was one of the first on the scene in 1904. The company did well at first and managed to maintain its position in the early days of the motorcar but, by the 1920s, the competition was fierce and, by 1924, Auburn had fallen on hard times. It was then that the flamboyant Errett Loban Cord entered the picture and took Auburn to the very pinnacle of its golden years. With the guidance of Cord_s genius, a new empire emerged that consisted of Auburn, Cord, and the mighty Duesenberg. These were widely recognized as some of the best cars in the world. Not only were the cars from the Auburn, Cord, and Duesenberg empire the fastest, but they were also the most beautiful and elegantly styled cars ever built. Indeed, the cars of Errett Cord came to be recognized as the very best in American automotive design.
Offered here is an excellent example of the Auburn heritage with this fabulous 160A Convertible Sedan. There_s simply nothing ordinary about this beautiful car as it_s not something that goes _under the radar_ when cruising down the road. Finished in a striking two-tone silver and maroon, its long and sweeping body lines clearly define the Golden Age of the Motorcar. This Auburn was fully restored in 2001 to factory specifications and it has been driven just 800 miles since. The massive front-end of the mighty Auburn presents an imposing profile with its tall grille, chrome headlamps, and Pilot-Ray lights that turn with the front wheels. Auburn_s tasteful styling is seen in the front bumper that carries just a slight dip at the center for dramatic effect. At the rear, the convertible sedan carries an accessory trunk for luggage and its profile is enhanced by side-mounted spare tires. As an all-weather convertible, it_s also equipped with roll-up windows. The interior is pure luxury with fine black leather, rich carpeting, and chrome plated trim pieces that speak to a time of elegant design in every facet of the motorcar. All dashboard gauges are center mounted in a machine turned panel that looks just right on a car of such sophistication. Power for this mighty Auburn comes from a 160 horsepower V-12 that_s smooth, quiet, and powerful. The engine compartment on this Auburn is nicely detailed with correct colors, wiring, and all components superbly finished.
Very few cars are able to exude the style, grace, and opulence of an Auburn V-12. Built in a time when style reigned supreme and elegance went hand-in-hand with brute power, this Auburn is a car that can be enjoyed and driven. Its twelve-cylinder engine provides ample power and torque to keep up with modern-day traffic with style and elegance. It is well-suited for classic car tours and events which make today_s collecting an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
