Description
1900 BC -1600 BC An ancient Mesopotamian Cuneiform inscribed tablet (biscuit) dating to the Old Babylonian Period. Made of orange terracotta with cuneiform inscription.Tablets like this are among the oldest known form of writing; typically recordings of legal agreements, documents and transactions.Partially translated (from photos) by noted expert, Professor R. Kovacs. In general, it translates to be an administrative contract, (an agreement between parties). A list of personal names who are associated with a quality of measure items. A transfer of merchandise or goods (counted items, not measured by weight).In excellent condition as the tablet is intact and complete. A thin hairline surface crack on the front does not effect stability.Displays nicely on the custom metal stand which is included as shown. Provenance: Ex. J. Behnkin estate of Atlanta, GA. Approx. 3" across x 4" tall x .5" thick. Just over 4.75" tall on the stand.
