Description
A rare Maya stone figure from the New River region of Belize, ca. 250 – 700 AD. This superbly detailed sculpture is 4-1/2” high, is carved from a red sandstone and depicts a shaman transforming into his spirit animal, a monkey. He is posed seated, holding what appears to be a braided object. His long hair flowing down the back is transformed into the tail of the monkey. A rare river find with strong mineral encrustation.
Demensions: 5" in height.
