Porsche introduced the 911 model with the type designation 996 as the first water-cooled variant after the last air-cooled Porsche 911 on the market in 1997, after more than 50 years of proven engine technology. At that point Porsche did not only carry out changes from a technological perspective, but also in terms of interior design. The model's Chief designer was Harm Lagaay, the variant was in production until 2006.
