Description
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A cast bronze furniture foot with a fierce motif of a gryphon or possibly a lion. He stands backed against a column, his lower body terminating in a huge clawed foot atop a multi-tiered pedestal that formed the foot of the couch, table, or other piece of furniture. Pieces like these remind us of the ornamentation that was present in the life of everyday Romans. Size: 1.5" W x 4.4" H (3.8 cm x 11.2 cm)
