  • Description: Folio enclosed in a silk folding clamshell case with black leather strap. Volume I contains four original colored lithographs and one original woodcut on Kawanaka Japanese vellum paper with text by James A. Michener. Volume II contains the Sketchbook of Jack Levine of 54 sheets of watercolors, gouaches and drawings on Ingres paper in the black leather folder.

  • Signed: By artist illustrator Jack Levine and text author James A. Michener twice: 2 signatures directly to limitation page and 2 also boldly to inside silk clamshell case.
  • Edition: First Edition; Limited Numbered Edition: No. 616 of 2,500 copies.
  • Note: Also laid-in is Philip C. Duschnes, Inc. Catalogue 232 page.
  • Volume I: four original colored lithographs and one original woodcut on Kawanaka Japanese vellum paper with text by James A. Michener.
  • Volume II: the Sketchbook of Jack Levine of 54 sheets of watercolors, gouaches and drawings on Ingres paper in the black leather folder. From two to forty colors were hand-brushed on each. Tissue guard protected. Numbered.

    Jack Levine (1915-2010) was an American Realist painter and printmaker. Levine's works featured in many public collections, incl. the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Museum of American Art, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the Brooklyn Museum, the Phillips Collection, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Fogg Art Museum, the National Gallery of Art, and the Jewish Museum (NY). In 1973, the Vatican purchased Cain and Abel (1961), for Pope Paul VI. In 1978.
