Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A trio of mostly flat pottery figures, all with elongated, pointed skulls and headdresses, and all with female genitalia. The figures are of the style known as "gingerbread flat". These figures, made to be placed in graves, have an unknown meaning - however, in other cultures, we know that artists seek to portray humans as abstractions in order to indicate that they are above the quotidian events of everyday life, so perhaps these had a similar meaning. Size: 4.25" W x 6.95" H (10.8 cm x 17.7 cm)
