Item Details
Description
A pair of nineteenth century Polish silver candlesticks, each with square filled base rising to a floral embellished border and bulbous triple knopped stem decorated with fruiting vine, and having circular removable nozzles. Russian hallmarks for Warsaw 1874, Assay Master probably Josef Sosnkovski, further indistinct marks, nozzles same date but different Assay Master mark. Height including nozzle measuring 12 1/2 inches (31.7 cm). From 1852-1899, an Imperial Russian Assay Office was functioning in Warsaw and the City mark was the Imperial Eagle.
Condition
Both candlesticks display expected general wear and tarnishing consistent with age and use. General surface marks and scratches and a few minor dints. Some heavier wear around square bases. Seam lines are visible and there is some slight loss of detail to areas of decoration but it is generally still good. Nozzles appear to fit quite well, repairs to both. Some of the hallmarks are rubbed or distorted.
